Stranded, Stormy's Adventure
Written
by Mary H. Wright
Illustrated by C.A. Guire
Stranded,
Stormy's Adventure is
based on the true story of Stormy, an 18-month-old bottlenose dolphin
who stranded on the Texas Gulf Coast. In this exciting picture book
for readers 6 to 9, young Stormy gets separated from his mother,
tangles with hungry sharks, and is finally rescued by strange creatures
called "humans."
Stranded
will appeal to readers of any age who love dolphins. Information
on how to help stranded marine mammals is skillfully incorporated
into the entertaining and engaging text. But even if readers never
encounter a stranded marine mammal on the beach, they will certainly
delight in Wright's gripping tale and Guire's entrancing watercolors.
Profits from the sale of Stranded, Stormy's Adventure
support the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Stormy is alive
and well today thanks to their rapid response and diligent care.
Stranded, Stormy's Adventure is
published on behalf of the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network.
Marketing efforts for this title include the designation of March
as official "Dolphin Awareness Month" and March 18 as "Stormy Day."
In honor of Stormy and all stranded mammals, the
Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network will be sending the author
and TMMSN outreach docents to schools, malls, aquariums, and bookstores.
Presentations
will include readings by the author, mock dolphin rescues, discussions
that allow children to touch and feel real dolphin bones, and tons
of deep sea secrets.
